My problem is pretty straightforward: I have a brand new install of Ubuntu Gnome in VMware fusion and I can't drag/drop from the host into the guest. I've tried different file types, tried dropping onto the desktop and into a folder. No luck -- everything just snaps back to the host. I feel like this is a Gnome issue, since the issue happened with Ubuntu Gnome 15 as well, but not on any other systems, Linux or otherwise. Any help would be appreciated.
One detail that may be useful: after I upgraded VMware tools (it installed 9.2 or 3 at first. Odd.), when I tried to drop something into the guest it displayed a "permission denied" error. When I restarted, the behavior returned to the way it was -- ie it just silently refused to allow the drop.
Problem outline:
- I can copy and paste to and from the guest/host.
- I can drag from the Ubuntu guest to the Mac host.
- I CAN NOT drag from the Mac host to the Ubuntu guest.
Version details:
- VMWare Fusion Pro 7.1.2
- OSX 10.10.4
- Ubuntu Gnome 14.04
- VMware tools version: 9.9.3.47419 (build-2759765) (I updated it. It shipped with 9.2 or something like that)
Other:
- VMware automatic updates are turned on.
- "Enable drag and drop" and "Enable copy and paste" are checked in the "isolation" tab of the VM settings.
- Guest Gnome settings has "allow icons on desktop" checked.
- I also have Win 7, Win 8, Ubuntu 14 (Unity version), and Kali VMs (and more actually, lol). No problems with any of them.
- I have the same issue with an Ubuntu Gnome 15 install.
Thanks.
[EDIT] Auto login is NOT turned on in the guest.
